How much does a rabbit cost in daily life?

Although a rabbit may not seem expensive to buy, it is important not to forget all the costs involved in adopting one. These can have a heavy impact on your budget, so before adopting a rabbit it is important to consider this aspect.
The fees mentioned in this article are only indicative prices based on my personal experience in France and can vary greatly depending on shops, online shops and vets.
01 – Adoption costs
As mentioned in the introduction, a rabbit is a much cheaper animal than a dog or cat; more than 10 times cheaper! This is very attractive for all future adopters, but nevertheless we must qualify these remarks which can depend on several factors. The price of a rabbit can indeed vary between a pet shop rabbit and a breeding rabbit. Count around 30€ for a pet shop rabbit and 80€ for a breeding rabbit. Note however that breeders often include rabbit vaccines in this price.

02 – Fees for the cage and accessories
A large number of rabbit cages are available in shops or on the internet with very different services for an average price of 100€. The different types of cages will be discussed in detail in a future article. For the utensils in the cage you will have to think about buying a rack for 5€, bowls for 10€, a litter box for 10€ and a packet of litter bottom for 10€ and some toys for 25€.

03 – Food costs
A rabbit, like any animal, has to eat. To do so, he must be fed hay, vegetables and pellets. The price of the Crau A.O.P. hay that I use is about 8€ for a one month package. Vegetables cost around 10€ per month depending on what you take and pellets are also 10€ for a one month pack.

04 – Medical expenses
A rabbit must go to the veterinarian at least once a year for a control visit and also to perform its vaccinations. The price for this service is on average 60€ for a rabbit. Moreover, once the rabbit is adult it is necessary to have it spayed or neutered. The price of a sterilization is on average 100€ for a male rabbit and 160€ for a female rabbit.
